Finally, a Good Reason to Read the Footnotes

The dissenters seem to have been having all the fun.

A few weeks ago, Justice Wainwright began a dissenting opinion with an extended quotation from the Disney theme “A Whole New World” to illustrate how far afield he thought the majority was taking Texas law.

Now, Justice Willett has taken the pop culture references into the internet age. In writing his partial dissent in FKM Partnership, Ltd. v. Board of Regents of the University of Houston System, No. 05-0661, he not only compared the majority’s reasoning about statutory construction to “a classic Inspector Clouseau moment,” but even provided a YouTube link for those who wanted to follow along.
