New Briefing Requests 8-22-2008

August 25th, 2008 by Don Cruse · 3 Comments

Although the Court’s first order list since returning from the summer was very short, it quietly moved eleven cases forward on the docket. After not having made any requests for briefing on the merits since mid-July, the Court requested full briefing in eleven cases on Friday.

This sort of request for full briefing takes the assent of three Justices and moves these cases one step closer to a decision on the merits.

The list of cases follows the break. * DOLGENCORP OF TEXAS, INC. D/B/A DOLLAR GENERAL STORE v. MARIA ISABEL LERMA, INDIVIDUALLY, ET AL., No. 08-0032

Thanks for this post, Don, it’s very helpful. Is there a list on the Court’s website or elsewhere where briefing requests are updated daily? I follow Osler’s link on Fridays to “Decisions in cases (motions, requests, etc.),” but your information is fresher than that. How’d you know? (If you can say….)

    Jeff,

As for your first question, the Court does release a weekly database report that includes some of this information, including new briefing requests. The link is here.

The short answer to your second question — how I track the docket — is that I created my own database system that lets me track it in the ways that are more interesting to me.

The long answer will come in another blog post later this week.

    Don

Thanks for sharing that info, Don. We represent the petitioners in one of those cases and your blog delivered a scoop to us this morning. We hadn’t yet received notice by letter or case-mail of the request for full briefing. You’re good.
